The Al Gatto Nero restaurant was opened in 1965 when the current owner, Ruggero Bovo, took over an old, popular inn on the island of Burano. Ruggero and his wife, Lucia, then gradually transformed the old meeting place into a restaurant recommended by the most authoritative restaurant guides, presenting simple dishes but with a focus on quality and local lagoon products.

The "black cat" restaurant is the creation of Ruggero Bovo, who has been cooking up some of the tastiest fresh fish and seafood here since 1965. "I love the fish of the Venetian lagoon and the Adriatic Coast, the raw material which has fed my island for generations and which I still have the fortune of getting fresh.

(and we had many) after a morning of being ripped off buying glass in murano, and prior to being ripped off on lace on burano we needed sustenance. so we relied on our personal shopper to recommend a place to have a nice lunch (not that we had a choice as to where, but that is a longer story for later. i will most likely save for my autobiography).
